Texas Democratic Primary Endorsements

vote March 2
You slacked like me, and missed the early voting period. Your polling location can be found here.
Now I'm gonna go off on my usual high-horse: PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR JUDGES! This is the bulk of the ballot and it ain't no pony show:
On the high end, how do you think Tom Delay gets a wristslap for obvious corruption? 9/9 friends on the bench, my friends. On the low end, you get a traffic violation: who do you want to stand in front of? Judges are the LAST SAY on just about everything. Their decisions (like Attorney General) can cancel those of the Governor, for pete's sake. PAY ATTENTION!
Okay, off that saddle. Here goes:
GOVERNOR: FAROUK SHAMI
Bill is basically a Repugnant (he switched over) and my first two picks dropped out of race. Eris decrees Farouk.
LT GOVERNOR: RONNIE EARLE
In a lot of ways has more power than Governor, and I'm a huge fan of Ronnie's and would never vote anyone else no matter what he's running for.
ATTORNEY GENERAL: BARBARA ANN RADNOFSKY
Unopposed in primary but please show your support. Her Repugnant opponent is one of the worst: just type "big fat hypocrite" into Google, and see what you get. Barbara is a fair, just, thoughtful, and wonderful person, on top of her qualifications for the job.
LAND COMMISSIONER: HECTOR URIBE
A short-term real estate developer versus a person who works for long-term stewardship land use? No-brainer. Hector's voting record in the Texas house and senate ain't bad either.
AGRICULTURAL COMMISSIONER: HANK GILBERT
HANK GILBERT! One more time: HANK GILBERT!!!
Okay, these were my two picks for Governor, actually, until they both dropped out and are running here, as both previously have. I've known Hank personally, and no one, NO ONE--dare I say not even Jim Hightower--is more qualified for this job.
I'm normally all about the chaos vote, but if you pick Kinky in this case, I'll drive over and slap you.
U.S. CONGRESS DISTRICT 25: LLYOD DOGGETT
No, he isn't opposed... who'd go there? We love him, and you'll pry him from our dead, cold hands. Throw the switch anyway and say, "Thank you Lloyd!"
STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION (5): REBECCA BELL-MATEREAU STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION (10): JUDY JENNINGS
Both actually know what they're talking about.
DISTRICT COURT (201): AMY CLARK MEACHUM
Personally met and professional and fair.
DISTRICT COURT (147): KAREN SAGE
If the "automatic death penalty" and costly incarceration of non-violent crimes ain't yo thang, this is your vote. Not that she's a doormat--far from it--just a real example of "justice should fit the crime".
JUSTICE OF PEACE (1): YVONNE WILLIAMS
Any civil rights attorney is okay by me.
JUSTICE OF PEACE (2): FIDEL "ACE" ACEVEDO
This one super-personal and I don't care what the papers say. While lacking the job titles of his opponent, I have rarely seen a more hard-working, dedicated to the people, inspirational nor INCLUSIVE--meaning no matter your race, creed, party, or other affiliations--person working in the Democratic Party.
He trained me, personally, to become a party delegate. And was the only person to help out the under-35 crowd (what the parties call "young"), encouraging and helping even those who couldn't actually vote (too young or felony on the books) to do their civic duties.
I personally know that despite lack of resume he knows all rules and laws and follows them in a fair, just, and caring manner.
I strongly support The Ace against all newspapers.
